Nicks, who owned and operated now-defunct Valley outdoor concert venue Compton Terrace south of Phoenix, had been chairman of the board of the Arizona Heart Foundation for three decades and had suffered from heart disease since 1974, undergoing three open-heart operations.
According to the organization’s Web site, Nicks raised millions of dollars fo r research into the prevention of heart disease.
His daughter also has raised millions of dollars for the organization, performing several benefit concerts, the last of which was Aug. 5 at Dodge Theatre.
In lieu of sending flowers, the Nicks family has asked that donations be made in the name of Jess Nicks to the Arizona Heart Foundation.
