TODAY IN STEVIE HISTORY: Stevie performs at Special Olympics benefit

On December 14, 2000, Stevie appeared at a benefit concert for Special Olympics, hosted by the White House. Accompanied by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Stevie sang her favorite Christmas song “Silent Night.” The performance was broadcast on the TNT network on December 19, 2000 and later included on the compilation A Very Special Christmas 5, which was released the following year on October 30. Stevie previously contributed a rendition of “Silent Night” for the first A Very Special Christmas compilation in 1987.

The star-studded event featured performances by Jon Bon Jovi, Macy Gray, and B.B. King, among many others, and appearances by President Bill Clinton and First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton.

Special Olympics is one of a myriad charities that Stevie has supported over the years.
