TODAY IN STEVIE HISTORY: Stevie performs Leather & Lace with Maroon 5

On July 25, 2011, Stevie joined Maroon 5 during the encore of the band’s Hollywood Bowl show for a crowd-pleasing rendition of Stevie and Don Henley’s 1981 hit duet “Leather and Lace.” With Stevie stepping up her vocals and lead singer Adam Levine assuming Henley’s high tenor role, the performance received a thunderous ovation from the audience. Stevie played up the onstage antics by playfully offering her hand to Adam, who responded by kneeling and bowing before her. The crowd roared in approval.

Both acts have mutual respect and love for each others’ music.

Palm Springs, CA (Hollywood Today) 3/3/13 – Opening with a former closing number “Rock and Roll,” was a note of change as Stevie Nicks took to the stage Saturday night at Fantasy Springs.

As a member of super group Fleetwood Mac, Stevie Nicks is part of rock ‘n’ roll history. There was a time when one in four homes in America had a Rumours album on the turntable or in the tape player. As a solo artist/writer, she solidified herself as one of music’s most prolific singer/ songwriters. That comfortable history was onstage Saturday night at Fantasy Springs Resort and Casino as she shared Fleetwood Mac’s hits and her own.

    Don’t Stop Believing

Nicks joined Fleetwood Mac with Lindsey Buckingham in 1974 and turned the band towards commercial success. The album Fleetwood Mac included Nicks’ “Rhiannon” and “Landslide.” Then came the classic Rumours, which has sold more than 40 million copies and is the eighth best-selling album of all time.

In 1981, Nicks released her solo record Bella Donna and cemented herself as a brilliant storyteller with “Leather and Lace,” “After the Glitter Fades,” and “Edge of Seventeen.” Fleetwood Mac finished rehearsals last month and is about to embark on a 2013 reunion tour, with stops in Los Angeles and Anaheim in May. Nicks recently taped an episode of “CMT’s Crossroads” with country superstars Lady Antebellum. It is scheduled to air later this year.

  • Rumor has it Stevie Nicks still has the sound

    1977_rumours_press

The friction between Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham that went public with 1977’s Rumours has yet to cool.

“We are a cast of characters who never really belonged in the same band in the first place,” says Buckingham, 63. “But the synergy works, and I’m looking forward to seeing where the mines lie in the field this time. It wouldn’t be a band without that tension. All the same things kick in. I know what I’m supposed to do. I know whose face to get in to make things happen. All those roles are so familiar. I’m ready to pick up the dice and roll again.”

Rumours was recorded during the breakups of the band’s two couples, Nicks and Buckingham and John and Christine McVie, who left in 1998. The three carried on, along with drummer Mick Fleetwood, and will launch an arena tour April 4. Nicks will perform a solo concert Saturday at Fantasy Springs Resort Casino in Indio.

Nicks, the most commercially successful Mac spinoff, finished a two-year tour supporting her lauded In Your Dreams, co-written and co-produced in her home with Dave Stewart. Since the release of “Seeds We Sow,” Buckingham has been touring with his band and in solo acoustic mode.

It was a confidence booster that improved his singing, he says. He’s aware Nicks is returning with greater spunk after her winning streak, which could set the stage for a clash.

Her solo outing “renewed Stevie’s spirit,” he says. “I’m happy she had a couple of great years. If it means a more complex political landscape, so be it.”

Buckingham’s solo foray “has been good for him,” says Nicks, 64. “Playing (one-man shows) can’t help but give you a certain compassionate softness. It’s very different from Fleetwood Mac.”

And while she declares the “Dreams” project with Stewart “the best year of my life,” Nicks is eager to return to Mac and determined to establish harmony.

“I’m going to be very clear about what I want,” she says. “What I want is for this band to get along and have a great time. So I’m demanding that. We are going to have a great collaborative working relationship. We’re always great on stage. I don’t say that from a conceited place. We’ve been playing since 1975. We know what we’re doing up there.”

    Buckingham can’t argue with that.

“The important thing is for us not to let the politics or landmines get in the way of us having a good time, especially for Stevie and me,” he says. “There’s been a subtext of competition and animosity, which is the flip side of love, for a long time. I think it’s driven both of us. Now is an appropriate time for us to acknowledge the context of our relationship and see what’s left for us to do. If this is the beginning of the last act, let’s wind up in a place that dignifies what we started.”

Legendary Stevie Nicks to perform at Fantasy Springs Casino

The “Bella Donna” of one of the world’s most popular bands is spreading her solo wings once again.

Stevie, who owns one of rock’s most distinctive and expressive voices, will showcase her catalog of hit songs old (her well-known solo and Mac benchmarks) and new (from her latest album In Your Dreams) when she performs at 8 p.m. on March 2 at Fantasy Springs Resort Casino.

You know her songs: “Rhiannon,” “Dreams,” “Stop Draggin’ My Heart Around,” “Stand Back,” and “Gold Dust Woman,” plus many more.

The genesis of Nicks’ latest effort, however, owes itself to the world’s obsession with teenage vampires.

“I had written a song in Brisbane, Australia when I was on tour with Fleetwood Mac in 2009 called ‘Moonlight — A Vampire’s Dream’ which was inspired by the New Moon film,” said Nicks, via her website. “When I finished writing that song, which came together really quickly, I knew the time was right to start recording.”

In Your Dreams was co-produced by Grammy Award-winner Glen Ballard and Dave Stewart of Eurythmics fame, who co-wrote seven of the album’s thirteen tracks.

“This was one of the most extraordinary experiences I’ve had making a record,” Nicks continued. “Dave created a situation where I could be totally creative and focused on writing songs and making music.”

“I cannot remember ever having this much fun making a record.”

The co-writing and down-home style of recording In Your Dreams harked back Nicks’ creative peak with Fleetwood Mac in the mid- to late-1970s.

“Writing the songs and recording them in my home studio was the key element in how this music turned out,” Nicks explained. “It is the first album that I have had this kind of collaboration since the making of ‘Rumours.’ It made the whole process seem very similar to how we used to work back in the day.”

As for the near future, Nicks and her old band are getting ready for a world tour, so this will be the last time you’ll be able to see Stevie perform sans The Mac for a long time.

“The great thing about having a solo career and having a Fleetwood Mac career is that you can go back and forth, and that really makes for never a dull moment,” Nicks said in a recent interview. “So now we’re ready to put what we did away and we’re ready to start with this, and it’s exciting.”

The tambourines are slightly more than a concert ticket. A solo portrait (you, Stevie, your dog) painted on the tambourine runs $280 and a portrait of two people, including Stevie, runs $320 before shipping.

  • Classic Stevie Nicks ends solo tour with heartfelt show at Germain Arena

Classic Stevie Nicks ends solo tour with heartfelt show at Germain Arena

ESTERO — Stevie Nicks called the final stop of her In Your Dreams tour bittersweet.

For her fans, the two-hour performance Thursday night at Germain Arena was just sweet.

Nicks didn’t sell out the 5,000-seat venue, but her vintage voice filled the void for the baby boomer-centric crowd. She might be 64, but her classic hits and signature sound never get old.

With her sing-along lyrics, trademark melodies, a handful of new tracks off her latest album and stories behind the songs, Nicks proved why she’s a legend. She also proved sequins, shawls, flowing black outfits and long blonde hair never go out of style.

She ended the two-summer tour with “Love Is,” as she explained, a customary piano ballad encore. And then she professed her love for creating new music, touring and her faithful fans.

“I’m going to leave my heart here,” Nicks said right before her final bow. “I look forward to some rest, but I am going to miss singing some of these new songs.”

Nicks started out the show by slaying Led Zeppelin’s “Rock and Roll.” With a montage of rock legends from the Rolling Stones to Paul McCartney flashing on the video screen behind her, the Fleetwood Mac frontwoman fit right in.

She was stuck in the ‘70s and that’s not bad. It was a pretty good decade for the singer-songwriter. And when the band went silent for the final lonely lonely lonely lonely time, Nicks’ unmistakable voice popped, showing she can still rock after 40 years in the business.

Her vocals matched the long, gold chain around her neck and the shimmering silver bangles on her wrists as she rattled off her repertoire of chart-topping hits and peppered in a few new songs along the way.

And for every hit she had a story.

She said she was proud of writing Fleetwood Mac’s only No. 1 song just before belting out “Dreams.”

She showed off a gold-dotted shawl after singing “Stand Back,” stating that it was the original garment worn in the 1985 MTV video.

She stripped down the beginning of “Rhiannon” and then told the crowd she wrote it back in 1973, two years before joining Fleetwood Mac.

She said 1973 was a great year for her as she wrote many hits that year.

She recalled sitting on the floor of a cabin in Aspen, Colo., in that same year. Back when, as she said, she wore platform shoes, had big curly hair and the perfect life. She asked to be left alone to write and immediately knew she had a future hit after finishing.

“I remember saying, ‘I think there is something to this song,’” Nicks said. “This little song turned into a ‘Landslide.’”

She said she remembered writing “Landslide” like it was yesterday. She sang it Thursday night like it was yesterday.

And for every new song she had a story.

Nicks said a visit to wounded soldiers at Walter Reed hospital in Washington, D.C., inspired a poem that eventually turned into the song “Soldier’s Angel,” a haunting tribute to the troops.

She explained she was a Twi-hard, a fan of the “Twilight” movie series, which explains her black-on-black vampire-esque wardrobe. She said she was in Australia at a theater watching the second installment of the ‘Twilight’ saga when she had an idea for a song. “Moonlight (A Vampire’s Dream)” would give new light on her career. It motivated her to go back to the studio after an eight-year hiatus.

“In 2001, after recording Trouble in Shangri-La, I gave up on the record business,” Nicks said. “I had enough, but this song brought me back.”

The song turned into an album and the album turned into the tour. She said it would be her final big-show solo tour. She sounded sad as she introduced her band and backup singers, many of whom had been with her for the 40-year journey, for one last time.

Fortunately for the fans, Nicks announced this summer that she would join Lindsey Buckingham and Mick Fleetwood on a Fleetwood Mac Tour in 2013.

There’s no doubt she’ll soar, as she did Thursday night, at times twirling on stage with arms extended and the array of shawls acting like a cape. She ended her final set soaring like a dove with a perfect rendition of “Edge of Seventeen.”

And then Nicks made a final victory lap on the edge of the stage, literally reaching out and touching her fans.

She thanked them for embracing her new music and “an artist who is progressing and not vanishing into the past.”
