‘Immediate Family’ doc screening in theaters, streaming digitally

Immediate Family (2022) — the documentary following the work and lives of legendary 1970s session musicians who were featured on some of the most iconic recordings of the era — is now screening in movie theaters and streaming digitally. The documentary features musicians who have worked closely with Stevie Nicks, such as Danny Kortchmar, Russ Kunkel, and Waddy Wachtel. It also includes interviews from Don Henley, Carole King, James Taylor, and many more.

“Waddy and I sometimes, I think we’re the same person, except from California and New York, because we are like two sides of a coin and that’s why we have been working together for so long I think. Because I would never want anybody else to be my musical director, or my lead guitarist, because Waddy makes me feel safe and always has in any situation, no matter how frightening the situation, as long as he’s standing next to me, I know I’m safe.” — Stevie Nicks

“This film is a window into the lives of my musical brothers, whose gold standard is to make sure that every song they play on comes out even better than the songwriter imagined. Now they’re doing that for their own songs, and this film tells their story beautifully.” — Carole King

“A wonderful and fascinating encomium to the unsung heroes of the music of the 70s and so much more. I was thrilled to watch my favourite musicians (and dearest friends) celebrated for their musical brilliance, their prodigious influence and creativity – and for how much fun we all had (and, by the way, continue to have!)”. — Peter Asher

“One of the things about the comradery was the knowledge of what it’s like to make music together and to collaborate. on something like that. Like put down a tune and everybody work together as a sort of team or a community on this tune. It’s a bond, it’s such a special thing to be able to do. “The creative input of these session guys cannot be overstated. It can’t be overstated. I mean it just can’t be overstated.” — James Taylor

Stevie Nicks appears in ‘Immediate Family’ documentary

Stevie Nicks appears in the new documentary Immediate Family directed by Denny Tedesco.

“The music documentary is about the backing band known as the Immediate Family, a unique group of iconic musicians who have played together for decades but never as their own band. Known for their long, illustrious careers backing up such Hall-of-Fame artists such as James Taylor, Keith Richards, Jackson Browne, Linda Ronstadt, Carole King, Stevie Nicks and Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, guitarists Danny Kortchmar and Waddy Wachtel, drummer Russ Kunkel, and bassist Leland Sklar have come together, along with guitarist Steve Postell, to perform their own songs as The Immediate Family, a band that can legitimately be called a supergroup.” —The Immediate Family, about the band

Stevie provides an interview about guitarist Waddy Wachtel, her longtime bandmate and friend whom she met in 1973. Here’s an excerpt of the interview:

“Waddy and I sometimes, I think we’re the same person, except from California and New York, because we are like two sides of a coin and that’s why we have been working together for so long I think. Because I would never want anybody else to be my musical director, or my lead guitarist, because Waddy makes me feel safe and always has in any situation, no matter how frightening the situation, as long as he’s standing next to me, I know I’m safe.” – Stevie Nicks

The accompanying documentary soundtrack includes “Leather and Lace,” Stevie’s 1981 duet with Don Henley, as well as archival footage of Stevie working with many of the artists featured in the film.
