Belle Fleur

“Belle Fleur” is a track from 24 Karat Gold — Songs from the Vault (2014), Stevie Nicks’ eighth solo album. A 15-second preview of the song was released to Stevie Nicks’ official social media sites on Tuesday, August 19, 2014.

Lyrics

Mountain women
Living in the canyon
Canyon dancin’
All night long

They form a circle
Hand in hand
Are you with me lady stranger
Her voice rings
Are you lookin’ for a man

Oh, will you dance with me
Will you dance with me, baby
Whoa…

Well, this is no ticket to dream land
A garden for feelings to grow in
As I run through the door
Of the long black car

Belle, will you dance with me
Will you dance with me, baby
Whoa…

And the days go by
Sunset sound
Sunrise
Sing to me
A lullaby
Sing to me
Of the daylight
I will sing you a story of moonlight
Ahh…
Will you dance with me
Will you dance with me, baby

Sunset sound
sunrise
Sing to me
A lullaby
I will sing to you
Of the nightime
I will sing you a story of moonlight
Moonlight
Will you dance with me
Belle blue
Belle flower

It’s just love
It’s only love
So will you dance
Ooh…

Mountain women
They live in the canyon
Canyon dancin’
All night long
They form a circle
Hand in hand
Are you with me lady stranger
Her voice rings
Are you lookin’ for a man
Her voice rings
Are you lookin’ for a man
Are you lookin’ for a man
Her voice rings
Are you lookin’ for a man

About the Song

Stevie rehearsed “Belle Fleur” for Bella Donna (1981), her first solo album. The title is French for “beautiful flower.”

“‘Belle Fleur’ was about not being able to have a relationship because you were a rock ‘n’ roll star. Those women are me, [my sister]Lori … and friends I had from 1975 to 1978. The [lyric]“When you come to the door of the long black car” — that’s the limousine that’s coming to take you away. Then your boyfriend is standing on the porch waving at you, like, “When are you going to be back?” And you’re like, “I don’t know, maybe three months?” But then we would add shows to a tour and I could end up not being back for six months. It was difficult for the men in my life. I lived that song so many times.” (Iannaci, 2015)
