Fleetwood Mac, Tango in the Night, 1987

You and I, Part II

Sung by Lindsey Buckingham, “You and I, Part II” is Track 12 on Tango in the Night (1987), Fleetwood Mac‘s 14th studio album.

About the Song

“You and I, Part II” became Tango in the Night‘s closing track after Fleetwood Mac determined that Stevie Nicks’ “When I See You Again” (Track 11) wasn’t a suitable way to close the album. “It was “a little too down and depressing,” according to Christine McVie. McVie added her lyrics to an existing Lindsey Buckingham instrumental to create the brighter “You and I, Part II,” which became the album’s new closer (White, 1991).

In 2017, Rhino Records reissued Tango in the Night, including “You and I, Part 1 & 2” on the bonus disc Demos, Alternates and B-Sides.

Lyrics

I wake up
With my eyes shut tight
Hoping tomorrow will never come
For you, you, you, you, you and I

Oh, the phantoms
Crawl out of the night
Hoping the daylight
Will never come
For you, you, you, you, you and I

Keep your heart open
And your eyes shut tight
What will be, will be
Keep your heart open
And your eyes shut tight
But don’t forget about me

Oh, the phantoms
Crawl out of the night
Hoping tomorrow
Will never come
For you, you, you, you, you and I

Keep your heart open
And your eyes shut tight
What will be, will be
Keep your heart open
And your eyes shut tight
But don’t forget about me

I wake up
With my eyes shut tight
Hoping tomorrow will never come
For you, you, you, you, you and I
Hoping tomorrow will never come
For you, you, you, you, you and I
For you, you, you, you, you and I
For you, you, you, you, you and I
For you, you, you, you, you and I
