“Races Are Run” is song by Buckingham Nicks, Track 8 on the album Buckingham Nicks (1973).
About the Song
Stevie Nicks has never publicly spoken about “Races Are Run.”
In 1999, Stevie’s Fritz bandmate Javier Pacheco revealed that he believed the song was about Fritz. “I think Lindsey (Buckingham) tipped me to that. But just read the lyrics: ‘So many different types of people’… It was a song about a break up, about people going their separate ways. I know Stevie had feelings for the band (Fritz).”
Lyrics
So many different kind of people
Trying to be the same
No way baby
He said
Baby, baby there’s no way
If we could start again
Well who knows
Have we really changed
Some say we have
Reflecting our past
Who can say
Who can say
Races are run
Some people win
Some people always have to lose
Oh, oh, oh, yeah
Tell me I’m wrong
I can’t believe you
We tried a thousand times before
Rained on reasons
Kept us believing
That there might still be more
Races are run
Some people win
Some people always have to lose
Oh, oh, oh, yeah
Races are run
Some people win
Some people always have to lose
Oh, oh, oh, yeah
Races are run
Some people win
Some people always have to lose
Oh, oh, oh, yeah
(Stevie Nicks)
