Stevie Nicks is scheduled to perform at the 40th annual Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland, where two special concerts will be presented to honor Atlantic Records. The first concert, a tribute to Atlantic founding chairman Ahmet Ertegun, will take place on Friday, June 30th.
Nicks, who recorded on the Atlantic label early in her solo career, remains a fan of the jazz vocal genre, having already performed standards “At Last” and “When Sunny Gets Blue” at charity events. She is expected to reprise her support for jazz standards at the special concert.
Among the big name acts slated to appear are Jeff Beck, Phil Collins, Chaka Khan, Kid Rock, Bette Midler, Jimmy Page, Robert Plant, Steve Winwood, and many others.
The second concert–honoring the late pioneering jazz producer, educator, and music executive Nesuhi Ertegun–will be presented on July 2nd. Scheduled performers include Ornette Coleman, Sergio Mendes, and Kid Ory featuring Wycliffe Gordon, among others.
The two concerts will kick off the two-week celebration of jazz music events, from June 30th to July 15th, honoring the profound contributions of jazz to the global music landscape. For more information, visit the official Montreux Jazz Festival website.
As an independent label, Atlantic Records rose to prominence in the late 40s, becoming the nation’s premier recording label for jazz, standards, rhythm and blues, and soul acts. Atlantic challenged major labels of the time (RCA, Columbia and Decca) by discovering and nurturing new talent.
