RECAP: Ohana Festival – Dana Point, CA

On September 30, 2022, Stevie Nicks performed at the Ohana Festival in Dana Point, California. Stevie headlined Friday night of the three-day music affair. Stevie settled into a shorter set list for the festival show, performing a concise 15-song set focused on her popular songs from Bella Donna, The Wild Heart, and her Fleetwood Mac song catalog. She also included her new Buffalo Springfield cover “For What It’s Worth” (released as a digital single on September 23) and Tom Petty’s “Free Fallin‘” (recorded for Music from Party of Five in 1996).

Eddie Vedder, who headlines tonight, made a surprise appearance, joining Stevie onstage for “Stop Draggin’ My Heart Around.”

Stevie shared a different story for “Gypsy,” alluding to how she copes with her mental health and is able to center herself. “When I get really upset or really freaked out or I’m just having a hard time; I’m having a breakdown, right? I take my bed off the frame and put in on the floor” she explained. “Put some really beautiful coverlets on it, and some paper flowers, and you go back to feeling like your normal self!”

“Thank you. So this next song is a little trip back into past. And so I decided to tell a new story about this, that I actually never told before so get that. So this song is a song about…that I wrote at the very beginning of Fleetwood Mac and um… So when I get like really upset or really freaked out, or I’m just having a hard time, I’m having a breakdown, right? I take my bed off the frame and put in on the floor. This gives me a sense of 1973 back before I became famous and rich and everything else that goes with giving you that angst, the stomach ache, the nerves, and all the rest of it. So put your bed on the floor, put some really beautiful coverlets on it, and some paper flowers, and you go back to feeling like your normal self! It’s ‘Gypsy.'”

“Thank you. So time capsule moment, this is cape is the original Bella Donna cape. It’s on the back of the cover of Bella Donna. As you will notice, it is in perfect condition. A good piece of fabric is worth every penny because it will last for the rest of your life. Thank you.”
