“God’s Garden” is a bonus track on the Japanese edition of Street Angel (TOCP-8162), Stevie Nicks‘ fifth solo album. In 2023, Rhino remastered and reissued the track for the retrospective Complete Studios & Rarities.
About the Song
“God’s Garden,” sometimes credited as “Playing in God’s Garden,” was intended to be the last track on the 1993 version of Street Angel. Stevie removed the track from the album after she and Tom Panunzio re-mixed the album in early 1994.
Ethan Johns, son of the album’s original producer Glyn Johns, wrote the song and performed guitar and sang on the track.
Lyrics
Through the mist I see her face
Looking down on me
Don’t know the time, don’t know the place
Let her eyes watch over me
She comes in deepest sleep
Can’t help but fall at her feet
Won’t let her in for all I’ve seen
This I will take to my grave
I see her walk on water
Head held up high
Playing in God’s garden
I’ll be there to hold you when you cry
The path grown over through the years
Walking on the pain towards my fears
Talking to myself for comforts sake
Holding on so I won’t break
I see her walk on water
Head held up high
Playing in God’s garden
I’ll be there to hold you when you cry
Sometimes I hear angels sing
Their tears wash away my sins
Don’t know what my destiny will bring
Just spend eternity with me
I see her walk on water
Head held up high
Playing in God’s garden
I’ll be there to hold you when you cry
