March 8 is International Women’s Day, a special day on which the world celebrates the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women.
As pioneers of independent women in rock music, Nicks and McVie’s paved the way for other female singer-songwriters to enter the traditionally male-dominated industry and help level the playing field, commanding industry respect and income equality. Most impressive was how both artists embarked on what became highly successful solo careers, particularly for Nicks, while maintaining their commitment to Fleetwood Mac, continuing to record and tour with the band.
