Honoring Stevie, Christine on Intl Women’s Day

christine-stevie-70s-blur-croppedMarch 8 is International Women’s Day, a special day on which the world celebrates the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women.

As members of the band Fleetwood Mac, singer-songwriters Stevie Nicks and Christine McVie contributed significantly to the music landscape of the 1970s by composing some of rock music’s most enduring songs, such as Nicks’ “Rhiannon” and “Dreams” and McVie’s “Don’t Stop” and “You Make Loving Fun.” They helped propel Fleetwood Mac into super stardom, earning critical acclaim and commercial success along the way.

Stevie Nicks Christine McVieAs pioneers of independent women in rock music, Nicks and McVie’s paved the way for other female singer-songwriters to enter the traditionally male-dominated industry and help level the playing field, commanding industry respect and income equality. Most impressive was how both artists embarked on what became highly successful solo careers, particularly for Nicks, while maintaining their commitment to Fleetwood Mac, continuing to record and tour with the band.

Today, Stevie and Christine stand as two of the music industry’s most successful women, whose music and legacy still influence new audiences decades after they first started performing on the world stage. We salute Stevie and Christine, and brilliant women all around the world, on this special day that honors their incredible achievements!
