Billy Joel cancels tour due to serious medical condition

Billy Joel has canceled his upcoming tour with Sting, Rod Stewart, and Stevie Nicks due to a recent medical diagnosis affecting his hearing, vision, and balance, according to an official statement issued Friday morning on Joel’s social media sites. Joel apologized for the cancellations, expressing his regrets, “I’m sincerely sorry to disappoint our audience, and thank you for understanding.”

Joel is currently experiencing Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus (NPH), a condition that happens when cerebrospinal fluid builds up inside the skull and presses on the brain. While the condition is serious, it is often treatable and sometimes reversible, according to the Cleveland Clinic. Under excellent medical care, Joel is currently receiving specific physical therapy to treat his condition.

Joel was set to take the stage with Stevie Nicks on August 8 at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ, with additional shows scheduled in Santa Clara, CA (October 4), New Orleans, LA (October 18), and Detroit, MI (November 15) — all of which are now canceled.

Ticketholders will automatically receive refunds (issued to original payment used for purchase) for the canceled shows.
