The soundtrack to Sound City: Real to Reel has debuted at number 8 on this week’s Billboard 200 Albums chart, selling more than 37,000 units. Billboard will publish the new chart on Thursday.

The new release features 10 original songs from Dave Grohl’s documentary film about legendary Van Nuys recording studio Sound City, where classic albums such as Buckingham Nicks, Fleetwood Mac’s 1975 self-titled album and Nirvana’s Nevermind were recorded. The soundtrack includes Stevie’s new song “You Can’t Fix This,” which was inspired by the untimely death of her godson, Glen Parrish, Jr. (Glen Parrish, Sr. was Stevie’s manager in the mid-’90s).

The soundtrack is available now on CD and digitally from iTunes and Amazon.

Stevie picked Scottsdale hot spot Barcelona to ring in the new year. Dressed in customary black attire with New Year’s tiara and her favorite honorary Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers badge in place, Stevie poses with Fiona Locke, Glen Parish (Stevie’s former manager who looks like he’s had A LOT of champagne at this point) and cousin John Nicks. Unfortunately, only Fiona and John are looking at the right camera.

According to the AZ Republic article, Stevie led the 1200 party guests for a rendition of traditional New Year’s anthem “Auld Lang Syne.” You might recall that Stevie didn’t appear to know the words to this famous song when her band started to play it on New Year’s Eve 1999 at the House of Blues in Las Vegas. But from the reports, it sounds like she did a great job this time around. Hey, I still don’t know the words to that damn song! “Should all the eggrolls be so hot…?”

  • Who is Glen Parrish?

    Who is Glen Parrish?

Glen Parrish is Stevie’s close friend and former manager (from January 1986 to March 1995).

Tragically, Glen’s 18-year-old son, Glen Berlin Parrish, died in 2011, allegedly from an accidental drug and alcohol overdose at a UCLA fraternity (Stevens, 2011). Stevie’s song “You Can’t Fix This” was inspired by this incident.
