Film chronicles the making of her seventh album

Stevie Nicks will release what’s being billed as an “intimate” documentary, titled In Your Dreams, on December 3rd. The film will chronicle the making of the Fleetwood Mac singer’s 2011 solo album, In Your Dreams – a period she has called “the greatest year of my life.” When it was released, In Your Dreams was Nicks’ first album in a decade, and it featured several songs cowritten and coproduced by Eurythmics founder Dave Stewart. Stewart also co-produced and co-directed the documentary.

The film will be available in different configurations, one of which – the limited-edition deluxe DVD bundle – comes with a copy of the film signed by Nicks, a limited-edition handwritten letter by Nicks and never-before-seen photos. It is currently sold out. Fans seeking an autograph, however, can attend a DVD signing at Barnes and Noble at the Grove in Hollywood on December 4th at 7:00 pm.

The documentary shines a light on Nicks’s personal life, according to a press release, and shows her writing songs, tap-dancing and attending costume parties and feasts. It’s said to include cameos by Mick Fleetwood, Reese Witherspoon and, quizzically, Edgar Allan Poe, as well as a white stallion, owls and “vampires” who appear in “home video–style music videos.” Lastly, it also includes a look at previously unseen seen pictures of Nicks’s childhood and several candid photos taken over the past 35 years.

In other Nicks news, the noted witch enthusiast will be appearing on an episode of American Horror Story: Coven playing a role she knows intimately: herself. She filmed her appearance while Fleetwood Mac took a break from touring, as John McVie underwent cancer treatment. “She called and said, ‘I’m now available, sadly enough, if you wanna use me,’” the show’s creator, Ryan Murphy, recently said. “So I said, ‘Let’s do it!’ So she’s flying in for like two days and doing her scenes. I know every person in the show is like, ‘I better be in that goddamn scene!’ It’s funny.”

Stevie regrettably canceled her scheduled appearance, but she shared a special letter with her guests. Special thanks to Leigh-Chantelle who attended the premiere and submitted a scan of the letter.

Here is a transcription of the letter:

    My Dearest friends

I am so so excited for you to see my little film. It is, to say the least, the diamond in my very long career. To be able to invite you into my house for a year never seemed to be very possible ~ but as the days flew by, that is exactly what happened. We started in Feb. 2010 and finished in Feb. 2011. Moments like this just don’t come along very often (if ever) so I feel very lucky that the harmonic convergence of the stars happened for Dave and I and all the crazy people whowere involved. I hope you love it as much as we do ~

    From our tribe to yours

BIFF has issued the following statement confirming the cancellation:

Since the cancellation announcement of Fleetwood Mac’s tour, we understand everyone must be anxious to find out whether Stevie Nicks is still attending BIFF. Whilst we were really sorry to hear about John McVie and would like to wish him a speedy recovery, we did however extend an invitation to Stevie Nicks to present her film Stevie Nicks: In Your Dream as planned. We were hoping we could make this happen and Stevie would love to have been with us however, despite our best endeavours we were unable to proceed. Stevie is writing a personal message to BIFF and we will be posting it once received.

A full refund is being arranged via Ticketek for patrons who had purchased tickets at the price of $40. We encourage everyone to now purchase tickets at the standard price, and join us to share Stevie’s creative journey on screen.

  • Spotlight: Stevie's prediction for Fleetwood future

Spotlight: Stevie's prediction for Fleetwood future

The singer is relieved her tip about the band’s big return has come true, writes Sarah Walters.

    (Neal Preston)
    (Neal Preston)

‘I TOLD the press last year that 2013 was going to be the year of Fleetwood Mac,” comes the nervous confession of Stevie Nicks, the band’s vocalist and songwriter. “I was just hoping with all my heart that this big statement was gonna come true!”

Certainly, the UK hasn’t made a liar out of Nicks who, at the age of 65, is about to embark on a headline trip around the country’s biggest arenas. Nor, in fact, has the rest of the world: the band’s biggest selling album, 1977’s Rumours, found itself nearing the top of several worldwide charts again this year – adding hundreds of thousands more sales to the 40m copies shifted since its release.

Nicks is still a blonde stunner, and it’s hard to believe she’s preparing to celebrate her 40th year with the group in 2014; in that same year, Fleetwood Mac – completed by Mick Fleetwood (drums), John McVie (bass) and Lindsey Buckingham (vocals, guitar) since the departure of Christine “Perfect” McVie in 1998 – will reach the grand age of 47.

They lost years to drugs, in-fighting and line-up changes, but since the Anglo-American blues-rock band dropped to a four-piece they’ve seemed unstoppable, their international live shows grossing millions at the box office. And that’s, in part, because of the longevity of their back catalogue; Albatross, Go Your Own Way and Nicks-penned Dreams and Rhiannon have endured through musical fads and fashions.

Of course, Nicks has helped her prediction of 2013 success along by stalling the band’s return to the live stage. “It’s just smart to keep us out of the spotlight for three years, she says.

“Everyone went along with it. And now they all know it was really a great idea because we were gone long enough that it was us coming back.”

There was, too, the not-so-small matter of Nick’s own solo album – In Your Dreams, her first in a decade and recorded with The Eurythmics’ Dave Stewart – and accompanying documentary which she felt needed her focus. And then there was personal tragedy; Nicks lost her mother and says the experience rocked her to the core.

“I didn’t go (to the studio). I didn’t want to go,” she recalls. “But it wasn’t just that – I didn’t want to go anywhere. I didn’t leave the house for almost five months.

“And then I got pneumonia. With my pneumonia and my mother’s death I watched the entire first season of Game Of Thrones! That certainly took my mind off everything.”

Nicks is a woman used to resolving her personal problems in public. When her long-term relationship with Buckingham ended, she briefly dated Fleetwood. Love was even in the air with pop legend Prince. “I wanted to work with Prince. And I was smart enough to know that if you start having a relationship with somebody, you’re never gonna work with them; the romantic thing’s gonna take over,” she recalls.

“Prince is such a strange and beautiful guy. But we lived in two different worlds. That’s when I was totally a drug addict and Prince is straight as an arrow.

“He would bring me cough medicine when I was sick and then I’d ask for another spoon of it, and he’d go, ‘I didn’t come here to start you on a new drug!’.”

That wasn’t a battle Nicks wanted either. “You realised that all that recreational/non-addictive [idea] was bull when it started to become more important than music. And it did.

“And heroin’s a lot quicker road to that! It’s gonna become more important than your music, or your acting, or your amazing career that you have ahead of you. You’re just throwing it away.”

It’s not an experience she hopes to repeat – nor could afford to with the demands of her current life.

She has always been a night owl, and although Nicks would be the first to admit that she’ll sit up chatting into the night after the rest of her fellow Fleetwood Mac members have sloped off to bed to beat the jet-lag, she’s putting the reputation of her legendary rock band and award-winning solo career first.

“Honestly, rock bands that are 30 years old would baulk at this schedule and at the amount of songs we’re doing and the length of the show,” she says about the new tour.

“They would go, ‘You are kidding? Two hours and 40 minutes a night?’. When people in Manchester see the show they’re gonna be blown way!”

    Fleetwood Mac play the Phones 4U Arena, Manchester, on October 1. Tickets: £50-£125 – phones4uarena.co.uk, 0161 950 5000.

    (Red Carpet News TV)

On Monday, Stevie Nicks, Dave Stewart, and Mick Fleetwood talked to Red Carpet News TV at the In Your Dreams UK premiere event. Nicks and Stewart debunked some myths that the casual observer may have had about Nicks’ role in the recording process.

“I only sit around and crochet or draw when there’s absolutely nothing else for me to do,” Nicks explained, “and that’s almost never. But that seems to be the pieces of film that have gone into the things that we have done over the last 30 years.”

Stewart also discussed the guitar solo that he created for the song “The Ghosts Are Gone.” Nicks described it as “one of the greatest rock and roll riffs ever.”

Mick described his first impressions of Stevie, saying “she had a magic thing about her” that reminded him of French singer Edith Piaf. Fleetwood also spoke about the success and longevity of Rumours and Christine McVie reuniting with the band at shows in London.

  • 'I will go to my grave angry at that man'

'I will go to my grave angry at that man'

Fleetwood Mac’s Stevie Nicks opens up about the psychiatrist she blames for ruining her chances of having a family.

She was as famous for her drugs battle and rock and roll lifestyle as for her distinctive voice during the height of her fame with Fleetwood Mac.

And as Stevie Nicks returns on tour with the band, she reveals that she holds a 20-year grudge against the psychiatrist she claims prevented her from marrying and having children when he treated her for over eight years in her thirties.

The 65-year-old star accused her psychiatrist of being a gossip-hungry groupie who fed her high doses of valium to keep her coming back into his surgery.

Miss Nicks became addicted to cocaine for 10 years but following her treatment at the Betty Ford clinic in America in the 1980s she then started seeing a psychiatrist.

She said: ‘When I came out of Betty Ford I was in great shape and then I went to see the psychiatrist that everybody was seeing at that point and I think he was just a groupie.

‘He just wanted to put me on something that would bring me into his office whenever I was in town, once a week for an hour, so he could get all the scoop on what was going on in the rock and roll world.’

The star has been married once – to her best friend’s widower Kim Anderson after his wife, Robin, died from Leukaemia, however the couple split after eight months and she has not re-married.

The singer, who once had a brief relationship with band mate Mick Fleetwood, said she blames the doctor for her lack of a family.

Speaking on the Radio 4 Woman’s Hour programme, she said: ‘I say to people I’ve chosen not to have a boyfriend, I’ve chosen not to have kids, I’ve chosen to be an artist and follow my muse and all that and blah blah blah.

‘But during those eight years, that was late thirties to 45, who knows what might have happened during those eight years? I might have met someone, I might have even had a baby.

‘So I will go to my grave angry at that man [the doctor] for that, because he took eight years of the prime of my life away.’

In April, the band, whose only original member is Mick Fleetwood, began its first tour in three years with a concert in Columbus, Ohio.

On Monday Stevie appeared at the Fleetwood Mac party at The Arts Club, London alongside Mick Fleetwood and former Eurythmics musician David Stewart.

She dressed in her signature ethereal style, wearing a floaty sheer black top with cut-out shoulders teamed with chain-trimmed boots, leggings and turquoise gemstone jewellery.

Miss Nicks joined Fleetwood Mac in 1974 – three years before the release of the band’s best-selling album Rumours, which sold more than 40 million copies worldwide.

The four-piece band, which comprises Miss Nicks, Fleetwood, Buckingham John McVie, will perform three gigs at the London O2 Arena from September 24.

Stevie also confirmed that singer Christine McVie is also set to rejoin Fleetwood Mac at two unspecified shows on their forthcoming European tour.
