Stevie interviews Mary J. Blige

They come from different worlds, but they are the saaaame… singer-songwriters, that is. Stevie interviews hip hop soul queen Mary J. Blige in the February 2008 issue of Interview.

Now some of you may be scratching your heads, wondering what their connection is. Well, you might recall Mary told Blender in 2006 that “Dreams”—”by that girl with the rough voice” (that’s Stevie)—was a favorite of hers. (She also digs Hall & Oates! Maybe that’s not a good thing.) Mary finally gets to pay Stevie that compliment in this new interview.

As for Stevie, well, she knows everyone in the music biz and listens to a whole lotta music, particularly dance and R&B, in her downtime (so says my ex-roommate, a music journalist, who had the golden opportunity to hang out backstage with Stevie and her publicist Liz Rosenberg in 2001). So it shouldn’t be too surprising she sought out another strong, talented singer-songwriter to befriend…for a future Stevie/Mary collaboration maybe? That might be interesting.
