On Friday night, Stevie performed at the Minnesota State Fair, an evening filled with songs, stories, and even a storm.
As she had two nights ago, Vanessa Carlton opened tonight’s show, performing a solid set. Stevie’s set began at 8:30 p.m. local time. She welcomed the crowd of 12,700+, telling them, “the one and only man I ever married lives here,” a reference to her ex-husband Kim Anderson. She mentioned Kim again later in the show when she told the story of “Stand Back.” “I know he’s out there somewhere, hiding!” she said pointing out into the audience.
As expected, Stevie told moving stories about Prince, who famously lived in the Minneapolis area. She dedicated “Moonlight (A Vampire’s Dream)” to him and felt his presence onstage, “watching over all of us.”
Unfortunately, due to a lightning storm, the show was cut short so Stevie didn’t perform her two-song encore (“Rhiannon” and “Landslide”), ending the night with “Edge of Seventeen” instead.
