European tour ends with technical problems, but Fleetwood Mac plays on after 90-minute delay.

    [slideshow_deploy id=’11921′]

Fleetwood Mac wrapped up its European tour on Saturday night in Amsterdam, with an encore performance at Ziggo Dome. But fans attending the show had to endure an unexpected technical problem involving a malfunctioning sound mixer, which delayed the start time of the show. Throughout the delay, fans tweeted pictures of the packed arena of restless concert attendees. Despite the technical hitch, Fleetwood Mac finally came out onstage nearly 90 minutes later to perform the show (with a shorter set list) that people had paid to see.

Stevie took a few extra moments to make a special dedication for “Landslide,” which she sang for Lindsey Buckingham, Fleetwood Mac, and the Amsterdam audience.

“Tonight I’m gonna dedicate Landslide to our band. So I’m really dedicating it to Fleetwood Mac, and I’m also really dedicating it to you, Lindsey. For all the wonderful things that you have done for me, and teaching me the little guitar pick that is in ‘Landslide’ that I would never have known had it not been for you, and all the really wonderful music that you have brought into my life. And just for being a wonderful friend all these years. And I just want you to know that. Even though we argue, the love is always still there.

“Now I’m gonna to take a couple of really deep yoga breaths while he does an extra long introduction and try to sing it. So this is for Fleetwood Mac, for Lindsey, and most especially for all of you that waited for us so graciously. This is Landslide.”

By the end of the tour, Fleetwood Mac had traveled to 15 cities in 10 different countries. There were many highlights for European fans, but the biggest ones occurred at two of the London shows, where Christine McVie reunited with her former bandmates on the stage. The London audience cheered loudly when McVie appeared during Fleetwood Mac’s encore to perform “Don’t Stop,” her ubiquitous smash hit from Rumours.

Fans who went to the second Amsterdam show have posted clips from nearly the entire concert. A selection of them are posted below.

Fleetwood Mac performed in concert at the Ericsson Globe in the beautiful Swedish city of Stockholm on Wednesday night. The band had an earlier start time of 7:30 p.m. and came onstage at approximately 7:45. As expected, the band started the night off with the reliable Rumours trifecta: “Second Hand News,” “The Chain,” and “Dreams.” Just before “Dreams,” Stevie greeted the Swedes warmly and gave her usual concert battle cry to fire up the crowd.

“We are so glad to be here. It’s a long way from the United States to Stockholm, but it’s worth every minute of it. So that being said, we think we should just get right on with this program and get this party started!”

Fans at the show quickly tweeted their praises of the band in action:

Stevie dedicated “Landslide” to Adriana and Torsti, “two really lovely people” that she met while shopping in Stockholm.

Fleetwood Mac closes out the European tour on Saturday night, with an encore performance at Ziggo Dome in Amsterdam. CONCERT REVIEW: Fleetwood Mac @ The Hydro, Glasgow

Legendary rockers return to Glasgow with a five-star performance

    (Michelle Blair)
    (Michelle Blair)

The buzz of conversation grew, as the crowd, taking their seats, waited in anticipation for the return of Fleetwood Mac at The Hydro.

The iconic outfit returned to Glasgow almost four years after their last visit, and proved to be as incredible as ever. Without further ado they launch into ‘Second Hand News’, closely followed by classic songs ‘The Chain’ and ‘Dreams’.

Fleetwood Mac seem just as excited as the audience, with Lindsey Buckingham jumping around the stage like a man half his age.

Coincidentally, it just happens to be Lindsey’s 64th birthday, and the crowd takes the chance to sing ‘Happy Birthday’, to which he responds with “don’t remind me”.

Stevie Nicks is also on top form, and her captivating stage presence makes the show a joy to watch. Her voice perfectly harmonious with Lindsey’s, she moves around the stage, at times spinning around on the spot, but never standing still for a second.

As well as old songs, the band treats the audience to something new, debuting a song ‘Sad Angel’, much to the crowd’s delight.

At one point, an appreciating fan throws her underwear onstage, leading an amused Mick Fleetwood to say “I feel like Rod Stewart up here, goodness me.”

One of the highlights of the evening is undoubtedly the performances of ‘Go Your Own Way’ and ‘Don’t Stop’, where the thousands of people singing along almost drown out the band. Gazing around and seeing so many people gathered together for the music is an enchanting experience, and the musicians take full advantage of the electric atmosphere in Glasgow’s newest music venue.

Fleetwood Mac are on top form and make the evening a night to remember; the audience fully aware of how much they are appreciated by the band, and by the reaction of the audience, the feeling is entirely mutual.

CONCERT REVIEW: Fleetwood Mac — The Hydro, Glasgow, Thu 3 Oct 2013

Stevie Nicks, Mick Fleetwood and co. prove that ‘the Mac is back’ with effortless arena show

Frontwoman Stevie Nicks performs at Glasgow's Hydro on October 3. (The List)
Fleetwood Mac frontwoman Stevie Nicks performs at Glasgow’s Hydro on October 3. (The List)

Fleetwood Mac version 2K13 look genuinely fresh; revitalised so much in their relative absence that casually jumping into ‘The Chain’ two songs in looks effortless. And they’re just warming up. Though “Everywhere” is among notable absentees in tonight’s gargantuan set, in favour of a few new gems from April’s Extended Play EP, our returning legends still serve up a high concentration of stone cold classics, from “Rhiannon,” “Tusk” and “Gold Dust Woman” to the blissfully upbeat “Don’t Stop” and the immortal “Go Your Own Way,” with resident front woman/ethereal spirit guide Stevie Nicks sashaying and cavorting with the crowd throughout.

With Mick Fleetwood on top, eccentric form behind the kit, thumping the skins like he’s fresh out of high school, and John McVie manning the helm on rhythmic duties, the band sound virtually unstoppable as they drive their runaway arena-filling freight train right into the hearts of twelve thousand screaming and adoring fans. But it’s perhaps the back-to-back solo set pieces of “Big Love” — in which the still remarkably baby-faced Lindsey Buckingham commands the enormous stage with his frantic finger-picking and searing howls — and Stevie Nicks’ trademark tearjerker “Landslide” that truly reduce The Hydro to a bittersweet, emotional mess.

Endingly aptly on “Say Goodbye,” the band close one door and gently nudge open another, with enough hints at future plans to assure us — especially those suffering from painful sell-outs and ticket hikes — that this is not just a flying visit. Or in Buckingham’s own words “the Mac is back.” For good.

  • FAN REVIEW: Christine McVie and me at the O2

FAN REVIEW: Christine McVie and me at the O2

    (Lolly Does London)
    (Lolly Does London)

In an 11-month, 13-country (so far) adventure there have been plenty of “I’d die happy” moments.

But, despite an ever-burgeoning passport, a self-satisfying list of European sights and South American escapades, and mastering the art of slipping through the masses to score the last empty seat on the Tube, I’ve struggled to think of another moment to top my list of moments since setting off on the Big OE.

Yes, folks, you might have tickets to Vector Arena but I defy you to trump seeing Fleetwood Mac belt out folksy rock jam after jam at London’s O2 Arena.

The evening did not start off the way I hoped.

After making the mistake of first heading to a bar in the Square Mile for some pre-show drinks (oh sure, I’ll pay [PndStlg]19 for a shared cocktail that arrives in a miniature bathtub filled mainly of ice- cubes not booze, and, oh sure, I’d love to be surrounded by Hooray Henrys loudly discussing how many zeros are in their salaries! That doesn’t sound irritating at all) we came to our senses and decided to venture to the surely packed-to-the-brim bars around the stadium.

From there the night was on a steady, skyrocketing improve.

In a moment of sheer brilliance, a consensus to buy some cheap Sav at a mini Tesco was reached so, upon arrival in Greenwich, we joined the troupe of concert-goers lounging around the concrete, supping in both London’s tacit approval of public drinking and the surprisingly balmy autumn evening.

(The evening’s warm-up entertainment: peering at the group of people taking part in the newest craze for London singletons, a group blind-date version of Up At the O2 — getting strapped into a harness and venturing out onto the 52m-high walkway, in the dark no less, is one way to sort the men from the boys, I s’pose.)

Then it was time for the night to reach what I thought would be its pinnacle — hours of live Fleetwood Mac listening pleasure.

There aren’t many bands that sound as good live as they do on their polished- to-perfection iTunes downloads. Even fewer that can make that claim, when the average age of its five “classic” members clocks in at 66.4 years.

Fleetwood Mac is not one of those bands.

Ignoring the buzz-kills who seem to crop up at every concert — I kid you not, the guy next to me had his fingers in his ears the whole time — and the burning in my heel-clad feet, I was one of those who defied the posse of lemony ladies, and the security guards they tried to enlist, who kept insisting everybody “sit down.”

    At. A. Concert.

Most people have one act that serves as their happy place.

For me, that’s Fleetwood Mac, who have been a constant presence during summers in Wanaka, house parties, and road trips since ages ago.

So to be in the audience at the O2 — a venue that would be hard to beat, no matter who you’re listening to — was magic.

To be in the audience to witness Christine McVie — arguably the band’s most underrated member — perform with them since the Nineties, was even better.

That, my friends, was the pinnacle.

(Of the night, and possibly also my life.)

The only disappointment, apres- concert, was watching the video clips I somehow managed to shoot, and being confronted with now-irrefutable proof my alleged singing is actually more like tone-deaf warbling.

Once, I made a special point to thank Mum in public for teaching me all the words to Fleetwood Mac.

I’m not sure the people around me would agree — and maybe that explains the dude next to me — but what I said then still stands.
