Fleetwood Mac family attends Celebration of Life for ‘our sweet’ Christine McVie

On Monday evening, Christine McVie’s close friends and bandmates gathered for her “Celebration of Life” in Malibu, California. Christine’s longtime musical companions Lindsey Buckingham, Mick Fleetwood, and Stevie Nicks reunited for the sad but celebratory occasion. Christine passed away at the age of 79 on November 30, 2022 after a short illness.

On Wednesday, Mick shared Christine’s eulogy, which has been transcribed below from his social media post.

This is what I presented Monday, January 9, 2023 at the Celebration of Life for Christine McVie in Malibu, CA where the band members with their/our personal family and extended family of Fleetwood Mac gathered. It was a beautiful tribute to a wonderful woman and an incredible talent.

I wrote this for Chris right after she passed away…

    For Chris,
This is a day where my dear sweet friend Christine McVie has taken flight,
And left us Earthbound folks to listen with bated breath to the sounds of that “song bird…”
Reminding one and all that love is all around us to reach for and touch in this precious life that is gifted to us.
Part of my heart has flown away today…
I will miss everything about you
    Christine McVie
    Memories abound…they fly to me

Thank you for coming today as we celebrate the incredible life of our sweet Christine.

So, when we first learned that we might be losing Christine, there was an immediate coming together of everyone in the band and the Fleetwood Mac family with the hope and possibility that we would not lose Chris.

And NOW since the loss of Christine, we all are still trying to come to terms with the fact she has really flown away.

In THIS moment in time, we celebrate her life, all together here today to help with our healing.

I’ve been blessed to be a part of a family that created a safe place for Chris and the band’s music to unfold. I am extremely honored for her to have been in my family’s life for over 55 years. Amy, Lucy, Ruby and Tessa, my four beautiful daughters and extended family grew up sharing life with Christine. We all love and miss her so much already.

The other day when John and I were sitting together and not knowing how to come to terms with the Loss of Christine, I blundered into a powerful word… I said, “John, It’s the Enormity of it all!”

The enormity of our loss, the enormity of her passion, the enormity of her talents and her unshakable sense of grace in the way she handled life’s challenges.

I think she would have been truly amazed at all the attention and celebrations of her music around the world and in total disbelief at the fact they were closing down sporting events to pay tribute to her. But that was our Christine — she was a North country girl from beginning to end never caring about the fluff. Again, it was our Christine who gifted so much to millions around the world.

She is being remembered Everywhere. Just as her song says, “I want to be with you everywhere” and she is.

It’s with a sense of gratitude and thanks to The Fleetwood Mac Family that we are part of…and losing such a magical component: has sparked a celebration of what Christine means to us. We all miss her as a family member, as a friend: an artist, a perfomer and Gold know a writer of excellence. And those years sharing life together will always be remembered.

I have a poem I want to end with, it is an ancient Sanskrit poem I have next to my bed that was given to me by my mother, Biddy…

    Look well to this day,
    For it is life,
    The very best of life.
In its brief course lie all the
    Realities and truths of existence.
    The joy of growth,
    The splendor of action,
    The glory of power
For yesterday is but a memory
And tomorrow is only a vision
But today, if we lived, makes
    Every yesterday a memory
    Of happiness,
    And every tomorrow
    A vision of hope,
Look well therefore to this day.”

Eternal love for Christine and gratitude,
Mick FleetwoodCelebration of Life for Christine McVie

Fleetwood Mac ‘The Alternate Collection’ slated for RSD Black Friday

Rhino will be servicing Fleetwood Mac – The Alternate Collection for the upcoming Black Friday edition of Record Store Day on November 25, 2022. The sets, available in CD and vinyl formats, compile the previously-released individual “alternate” releases into one tidy package.

The 6-CD edition of The Alternate Collection will be limited to 10,000 copies, while the 8-LP package will cap at 9,000. The LP version will include all eight records on colored vinyl, similar to the previous two Rhino limited-edition vinyl box sets (Fleetwood Mac 1973 and 1974 and Fleetwood Mac 1975 to 1987).

Record Store Day has turned out to be a successful way to support local, brick-and-mortar record stores and satisfy vinyl collectors, who clearly have a big appetite for exclusive releases, even if they are repackaged versions of previously issued material.

Fleetwood Mac honors late Warner executive Mo Ostin

Longtime Warner Records executive Mo Ostin died at the age of 95 on Sunday morning, according to the Los Angeles Times. Mo’s visionary leadership helped guide the careers of Fleetwood Mac, The Eagles, and Steely Dan, among others.

Fleetwood Mac members Stevie Nicks and Mick Fleetwood both offered warm tributes to the late music label giant.

“I have a crystal-clear memory of Fleetwood Mac walking in the front door of the Warner Bros. offices in 1975 and I can honestly say that my world changed instantly,” singer Stevie Nicks said. “Mo was loving and nurturing and had excellent musical taste, with boundless ideas and vision. He listened to artists and always put them first.”

“I looked to him as a friend first, who helped guide me and Fleetwood Mac into a place where we, like many others, were free to develop our music and have our creative needs met with wisdom and open arms,” added drummer Mick Fleetwood.

“Then and now, FLEETWOOD MAC LIVE artfully marks a fascinating time period for a group that, in one form or another, has been on the global stage for more than half a century… It’s a wildly entertaining rock ’n’ roll circus in full swing under a big tent of the band’s own creation as they leave audiences dazzled in locales from Paris, France, to Passaic, New Jersey.” – David Wild

When Fleetwood Mac released its first live album in December 1980, it captured the legendary band’s most iconic lineup on stage demonstrating the full scope of their collective, creative powers. Recorded mostly during the world tour for TUSK, FLEETWOOD MAC LIVE delivered a double-album’s worth of exhilarating performances that included massive hits like “Dreams” and “Go Your Own Way,” “Rhiannon,” and “Don’t Stop.”

On April 9th, we’re giving the band’s live debut a much-deserved encore with a new 3CD/2LP collection that features a remastered version of the original release on both 180-gram vinyl and CD, plus more than an hour of unreleased live music recorded between 1977 and 1982 on the third CD. The set also includes a bonus 7-inch single featuring previously unreleased demos for “Fireflies” and “One More Night.”
The majority of the original album was recorded live between 1979 and 1980, save for a few exceptions: “Don’t Let Me Down Again,” was recorded in 1975 during the tour for FLEETWOOD MAC; “Dreams” and “Don’t Stop” are from the band’s sound check in Paris; while “Fireflies,” “One More Night,” and a cover of the Beach Boys’ “Farmer’s Daughter” were all recorded in California during a special show for the band’s crew, family, and friends.

The 14 live tracks that debut on the SUPER DELUXE EDITION span a wider range of time than those on the original release. They include seven songs from the Tusk tour (1979-80), four from the Rumours tour (1977) and three from the Mirage tour (1982). These stellar additions include live versions of “Tusk,” “Gold Dust Woman,” and “Songbird,” plus “The Green Manalishi (With The Two-Pronged Crown)” – a song written in 1970 by guitarist Peter Green, who founded Fleetwood Mac with Mick Fleetwood and Jeremy Spencer in 1967.

A special TOUR EDITION is available for pre-order exclusively in the Rhino store. Limited to 1,000 copies, this one features the 3-CD/2-LP/7-inch collection plus replica ephemera from the era including a ticket, backstage pass, ad, button, sticker, and iron-on patch.

  • Rhino celebrates early Fleetwood Mac catalog with new box sets

Rhino celebrates early Fleetwood Mac catalog with new box sets

Rhino is poised to reissue the band’s early catalog: Fleetwood Mac: 1969-1974 and Fleetwood Mac: 1973-1974

On September 4, Rhino will release two Fleetwood Mac box sets: the 8-CD 1969-1974 and 4-LP with 7″vinyl 1973-1974.

1969-1974 includes Fleetwood Mac’s seven albums between the years of 1969 and 1974. The seven studio albums are Then Play On, Kiln House, Future Games, Bare Trees, Penguin, Mystery to Me, and Heroes Are Hard to Find. Each disc includes the full-length album, along with alternate, live, and single versions (expect Penguin) — some of which are making their first appearance on CD. The eighth disc features the band’s live performance at The Record Plant in Sausalito on December 15, 1974.

1973-1974 picks up where 1969-1972 left off (released in 2013), featuring Penguin, Mystery to Me, Heroes Are Hard to Find, and Fleetwood Mac Live from The Red Plant 12-15-74. The release also includes a mono promo edit of the Mystery to Me track “For Your Love” and the outtake “Good Things (Come to Those Who Wait).” A limited-edition colored-vinyl version of Fleetwood Mac 1973-1974 will also be available.

    Fleetwood Mac 1973-1974

During this transitional era, Fleetwood Mac went through a series of notable guitar players (Peter Green, Jeremy Spencer, Danny Kirwan, Bob Weston, and Bob Welch), as the band moved from a blues to contemporary pop-rock sound. Late guitarist Bob Welch led the band through much of the new musical direction, relocating the band to the vibrant Los Angeles music scene in the early 1970s. (Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham had made a similar relocation to the area around this time, before joining Fleetwood Mac at the end of 1974.) Welch sang lead and played guitar on five of the seven albums from 1971 to 1974, contributing radio hits “Sentimental Lady” and “Hypnotized.”
